Our Purpose
We exist to cultivate anchors in our community that build a more just and abundant future for all young people. Our approach ensures that each student reaches their full intellectual, physical, social, and emotional potential. Our instructional practices ensure that each student experiences world-class development and that every teacher is on a fulfilling, effective, and dynamic career pathway. Our organizational commitments ensure that we are continuously improving our effectiveness, sharing our knowledge with other educators, learning from our partner schools, and engaging in authentic participatory action research with our community.
Our Mission
The Anchor School is a village of educators, families, and community members that partners with 6th through 12th grade students who are developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive in school and beyond.
Our Vision
We are committed to cultivating experiences that allow young people to understand who they are and to whom they are connected. Our educational approach supports intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth. Our students will become anchored internally and externally. Our graduates have the confidence, self-awareness, and community they need to succeed in and beyond the university.
Our Equity Vision
We are a learning community which exists to cultivate anchors in our community that build a more just and equitable future. We are in Atlanta – a place that remains at the center of the fight for social and economic justice across social, economic, and cultural categories in our city, our state, and our nation. We imagine a future where Atlanta is a place of abundance for all young people pursuing their dreams: abundant love and support – abundant resources and opportunity.
We believe our diversity is our greatest strength and we seek to affirm the identities of every student, family, faculty, staff, and community partner with whom we work. We value the lived experiences of all perspectives. We include people of all ages, races, ethnicities, classes, religions, cultures, languages, sexual orientations, gender identities, and abilities through intentional collaborative practices.
As a new organization, we are steadfast in our commitment to dismantling systems of oppression that exist while simultaneously designing systems which expand and sustain justice, equity, and agency in our learning community.
